    How we check the dates

Termbook uses councils' own pages and documents for school term dates and GOV.UK for bank holidays. Dates are checked independently before publication and are never estimated. Source links let you check the original information. Calculated dates are labelled, and missing or contradictory dates are left blank. Questions and answers

    When is half term?

Choose your council to find its published half-term dates, then check your school's dates as these may differ. The break usually falls in the middle of each school term.

Why do dates differ between councils?

Each council sets term dates for community schools and voluntary controlled schools in its area. Neighbouring councils can choose different dates, so their breaks may fall at different times.

Does an academy follow the council's dates?

An academy can set its own term dates, so it may have different dates from the council. Check the academy's own dates to see which apply to you.

    What is an INSET day?

An INSET day is a staff training day when pupils are not in school. You may also see it called a teacher training day or a professional development day.

What if my child's school has different dates?

Use the school's own dates if they differ from those shown here. Please report any error you find on Termbook so it can be checked against the source.
